The landmark of Hamburg is the church of St. Michael, called Michel. The tower is the second highest in Hamburg. The highest one is the tower of St. Nicholas with a height of 482 ft; it towers above the city as a memorial. From the observation deck of the Michel at height of 347 ft you have a beautiful panoramic view of Hamburg.
Right next are the Krameramtsstuben. The half-timbered houses from the 17th Century illustrate the life in the corridors neighborhoods that have dominated large parts of Hamburg.
If you have time you should visit the Schifferbrse the central station. This original restaurant has some historical exhibits from shipping. In former times, the so-called Schifferboerse was a place where merchants, brokers and shipowners sealed the conclusion of a contract of affreightment and later with a glass of wine. To some extent, this is still the case today.
During a Hamburg city tour one should not miss the Schanzenviertel. The Schanzenviertel is now considered as trendy neighborhood with narrow backyards as well as bars, restaurants and boutiques. The flea markets on Saturday characterizes the image of the district. The Achidi Johns Square reminds of the drug dealer Achidi Johns, killed by the forced medical administration of emetics, by a doctor and the police.
A stroll along the Reeperbahn is part of a visit to Hamburg, as well as a harbor cruise. The name Reeperbahn — ropewalk – originates from craftsmen producing ropes and cables. Today the Reeperbahn in St. Pauli district is Hamburg’s entertainment and red light district. Das Wahrzeichen Hamburgs ist die Kirche St. Michaelis, der Michel. Der Turm ist der zweithchste Hamburgs. Der hchste ist der Turm von St. Nikolai, der als Mahnmal mit 147m Hhe die Stadt berragt. Der Michel hat eine Aussichtsplattform in 106 m Hhe, von der aus man einen herrlichen Rundblick auf Hamburg hat.
Direkt daneben sind die Krameramtsstuben. Die Fachwerkhuser aus dem 17. Jhd. veranschaulichen das Leben in den Gngevierteln, die weite Teile Hamburgs prgten.
Wer Zeit hat sollte die Schifferbrse beim Hauptbahnhof besuchen. Dieses originelle Lokal mit zum Teil historischen Ausstellungsstcken aus der Schifffahrt wurde in der Regel nach dem Abschluss eines Frachtvertrages von Kaufleuten, Makler und Reedern besucht, wobei der Vertrag mit einem Glas Wein endgltig besiegelt wurde. Teilweise ist dies auch heute noch der Fall.
Bei einem Hamburg Stadtrundgang darf auch das Schanzenviertel nicht fehlen. das Schanzenviertel gilt heute als Szeneviertel mit verwinkelten Hinterhfen aber auch Bars, Restaurants und Boutiquen. Der am Samstag stattfindende Flohmarkt prgt ebenfalls das Bild des Viertels. Am Achidi Johns Platz wird des Drogendealers Achidi Johns gedacht, der bei der durch die Staatsanwaltschaft angeordneten Zwangsverabreichung von Brechmitteln durch eine rztin und der Polizei gettet wurde.
Ein Bummel ber die Reeperbahn gehrt zu einem Hamburg-Besuch ebenso wie eine Hafenrundfahrt. Der Name Reeperbahn stammt ursprnglich von Handwerkern, welche Schiffstaue und Seile produzierten (Reepschlger). Heute ist die Reeperbahn Hamburgs Vergngungs- und Rotlichtviertel im Stadtteil St. Pauli.
Zustzlich ist die Kunstszene ein wesentlicher Bestandteil; der Beatles Platz und der Hans Albers Platz, sowie viele Theater und Musicals erinnern daran. Aktuell wird hier das Musical Rocky aufgefhrt. Ein hufig fotografiertes Motiv ist Deutschlands bekannteste Polizeistation, die Davidswache.
