“We are also concerned about this situation of violence in which we want free transit. In other words, we live with the uncertainty that someone will beat us, rob us or sexually abuse us. What we want, but what I want to make clear is that violence has no gender and all Mexicans want peace.”

4. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Alison Gonzalez, spokesperson:
“This is the second march that was born as a result of the unconformity of so many Mexicans to live in a situation where we do not really breathe peace, we do not breathe an environment that can promote the human life of all Mexicans. To guarantee health, education, to guarantee the quality of life of all Mexicans. This is a march in favour of women.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Alison Gonzalez, spokesperson:
“That they legislate in favour of women, really seeking to fully address all the issues they face, and thirdly, of course, if we see that abortion is not the solution, abortion generates more violence, abortion places us as enemies between women and life.”

STORYLINE:
Anti-abortion supporters marched through Mexico City on Sunday in a protest which had been called “in favour of women.”
The Un Dia Por Todays organisation claimed that at least one million people had attended similar marches in 31 states.
It was the second consecutive year that the march in the country’s capital had taken place.
Organisation spokesperson Alison Gonzalez said that the protest was held “as a result of the unconformity of so many Mexicans to live in a situation where we do not really breathe peace, we do not breathe an environment that can promote the human life of all Mexicans.”
Last year’s protest took place after abortions of up to 12 weeks were decriminalised in at least 10 states.
