1.Hamburg has more bridges than any other city in the world.
2. The Beatles performed an estimated 281 shows in Hamburg between 1960–1962. John Lennon said, “I might have been born in Liverpool, but I grew up in Hamburg.”
3. The biggest model railway in the world is in Hamburg. The Miniatur Wunderland has a track of over 52,493.44 feet (16,000 meters).

4. Hamburg’s Lake Alster is home to over 100 swans. A government gamekeeper called the Schwanenvater, the “the Swan father,” looks after them. This position has existed since the 17th century and is one of the oldest continuous government posts in the world.
5. Citizens of Hamburg are called “hamburgers.”
6. Hamburg resident Bernard Markwitz invented arm floaties in 1956, after his daughter fell into the family’s fish pond.
7. Many buses in Hamburg have small bookshelves so riders can read during their commute.

9. Herbertstrae is Hamburg’s shortest street. It is blocked on both ends because it has been a red-light district since the 19th century. All males who are under 18 years old as well as women are prohibited from entering.
