Today we are in a small town in White Pine County in Nevada called Ely. The town has about 4,000 people living there and the county has a population of about 10,000 residents. Although many of the residents grew up in Ely, quite a few have moved there from Las Vegas or from out of state to retire. I stayed at the Jailhouse Motel & Casino in downtown, across from the Hotel Nevada and near several places to eat. The downtown area does have several small restaurants, much cooler weather than in Las Vegas and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. Some of the popular things to do in Ely include a train museum, checking out the artwork around the small town, the Renaissance Village, mountain biking, hiking and camping.
