(28 Jan 2018) Huge crowds have gathered in the Paraguayan city of Encarnacion for carnival.
With vibrant floats, parades and samba dancers, the coloruful event is said to be an alternative to Rio de Janeiro’s famous carnival.
Sitting 230 miles (450 kilometres) south of the capital Asuncion, Encarnacion is known as the “Carnival Capital of Paraguay”, and every year becomes the setting for this month-long celebration of music and dance.
Despite the rain, the celebrants said carnival was spectacular.
