The age at which adolescents living in informal settlements in Nairobi have their debut sexual experience, is much lower than for their peers in non-slum areas. According to findings released by African population and health research centre, 50% of adolescents sampled were initiated into sex by the age of 15 for those living in slums, compared to their counterparts not residing in slum areas who had their first sexual encounter at the age of 18.
