Welcome to Amsterdam No. 1 touristic site: Red Light District (RLD). This district that exists by the way in other European cities, but did not receive the same glory, is spread over a canal not far away from Amsterdam Central Station.

The beautiful working lady in the video has agreed for us to take a short video of her from the back, just to show tourists what this is all about. Normally, taking photos or videos in RLD is strictly forbidden.

In Amsterdam we treat the Red Light District ladies with lots of respect since they are working for living just like everyone else does. The ladies have been an essential part of the city for generations and symbolize the Amsterdam spirit of open mind and tolerance.

The area of RLD is located mainly along the canal of oudezijds Achterburgwal and the area around the Old church. There are more areas in Amsterdam populating hookers.

The prostitution in the Netherlands is regulated and the hookers are being medically checked and paying taxes for their income.

Unfortunately prostitution is sometimes abused by pimps and drug dealers and is thought to be associated with other illegal activities. The city of Amsterdam has decided under EU pressure to minimize the number of windows used by hookers and to implement a policy of reducing crime. That policy is under heavy local criticism. One of the good results is that now alone the RLD one can see beautiful ladies alongside fashion windows of local designers.
