Prostitution and Violence Against Women and Girls – Report of UNSRVAW Ms. Reem Alsalem, June 2024

On June 21, 2024, Ms. Reem Alsalem, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls presented her historic report on Prostitution & Violence at the 56th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Ms. Alsalem’s groundbreaking report on Prostitution & Violence received unwavering support from the vast majority of countries at the 56th session of the HRC. The Report unequivocally calls for the abolition of prostitution and the adoption of the Equality Model which, a) decriminalizes women in prostitution, b) Invests in exit pathways for survivors to leave the prostitution system and, c) Criminalizes pimping, profiteering and buying sex acts.
