Mass arrests over Belgium diamond heist

http://www.euronews.com/ More than 30 people have been arrested in connection with a 35 million euro robbery at Brussels airport on February 18.

A Europe-wide manhunt led to 24 people being detained in Belgium during police raids on May 8. There were also six arrests in Switzerland and one in France.

Jean-Marc Meilleur, spokesman for the Brussels prosecutor’s office, said:

“Several objects have been seized during these raids. In Switzerland we have found diamonds that we can already say came from the heist, and in Belgium a large amount of money has been found. The investigation is ongoing.”

The theft was carried out in a matter of minutes – when robbers, dressed as police, drove through the airport fence up to a passenger plane with diamonds in the hold, broke in and took the jewels.
